Barossa Attractions
Fresh produce
The Barossa is a region of indulgence. The local wines are award-winning and the local food and produce is gourmet.
Join the hustle and bustle of the Barossa Farmers' Market, held in the Vintners' Sheds near Angaston. There are more than 30 stalls to wander through and the freshest of local produce available.
Why not grab some direct from the producer? For a memorable Saturday breakfast, try the bacon and egg rolls, real eggs, real bacon and homemade sauce or chutney to go with the freshly baked bread. It's a perfect start to the day!
Maggie Beer's Farm Shop
Explore Maggie Beer's Farm Shop. One of Australia's most loved cooks, Maggie and husband, Colin, have created a collection for all things culinary. Tastings are available, as well as limited edition produce and cooking demonstrations.
Butcher, Baker, Winemaker Trail
Follow the Butcher, Baker, Winemaker Trail and celebrate the distinctive culinary tradition of the Barossa. Tread the same paths as the mid-nineteenth century pioneers, sampling olive oil and dukkah, local cheeses, dried apricots and delicious smoked bier sticks. Try them all with a glass of wine of course! For a real treat, try the VIP experience. As a VIP, you will receive a great hamper, extra discounts and bonuses along the trail.
Haven't quite found the drop you like? Why not make your own at Penfolds? Blend wine to your particular tastes, using Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre. You can even take a bottle of your blend with your name as the Assistant Wine Maker on the label.
Natural wonders
Getting away from food and wine for just a moment, the Whispering Wall needs to be seen (or heard) to be believed. The retaining wall of the Barossa Reservoir is curved in just the right way, so a person whispering at one end can be heard clearly by another, more than 100 metres away. Try it for yourself!
For a family tree with a difference, head to Springton. You'll find The Herbig Tree, a large, hollow red gum that was actually home to Johann Friedrich Herbig, his wife Caroline and the first 2 of their 16 children!
Join the flocks of birds and butterflies and follow your nose to the Lyndoch Lavender Farm. It's a working farm with more than 2.5 hectares of blossoms and the occasional bearded dragon (lizard), who must love flowers.
