Eyre Peninsula Adventure and Outdoors

It’s adventure central

If you like getting close to nature but you prefer your fish a little gentler, swim alongside Australian giant cuttlefish near Whyalla.

Dive down into the clear waters and watch these remarkable creatures glide by. The cuttlefish change colours, depending on their mood, moving gracefully through the sea.

Swimming with sea lions, Baird Bay, South Australia

Are you up for an adventure on your Eyre Peninsula holiday? Come face to face with great white sharks from the safety of a diving cage. Swim so close to sea lions, you’ll almost be able to reach out and touch their whiskers.

Swim with tuna

Have you got a can of tuna in the cupboard? Small isn’t it? It’s nothing like the huge fish farmed near Port Lincoln. You can swim with them as they flash around you at lightning speed.

Swimming with Sealions

Swimming is believing at stunning Baird Bay, one of the few places in the world where you can swim with two very remarkable species – dolphins and Australian sea lions.

Full on fishing

If catching a fish is more your style, try game fishing on the Eyre Peninsula. Ask your charter boat operator to take you to a place where you can catch a massive snapper or huge tuna.

There are many other species caught around the peninsula too, including King George whiting, kingfish, blue swimmer crabs (don’t go swimming with them), squid, garfish and others.

Gnarly surfing

Cactus Beach, on the far west coast, is famous with surfers around the world. It’s remote, it’s wild and it’s awesome. You won’t find anywhere else like this in the world. If you’re a surfer, you’ve got to try the breaks. If you’re not, you’ve just got to come to see one of the best beaches in Australia.

Outback adventure

When you’ve dried out, look to inland Eyre Peninsula for adventure. The Gawler Ranges are the Australian outback; wild, rugged and ancient. This is a place you should really see. Be amazed at the Gawler Ranges’ size, isolation and stark beauty.
