Visit Ghost Mushroom Lane during May and June annually.

A luminous mushroom can be found growing in Limestone Coast pine forest during winter and ForestrySA is giving you the chance to see the glow first hand.

The ghost mushroom (Omphalotus nidiformis) emits a soft green glow after dark as a result of a chemical reaction between fungal enzymes and oxygen. This glow can be bright enough to read words on a page!

Ghost Mushroom Lane is a family-friendly forest experience, giving visitors after-dark access to the forest and the eerie glow within.

It is located within a known mushroom breeding ground, among pine forest near Glencoe, 16km from Mount Gambier.

Clear signage is located along the Millicent and Kangaroo Flat Roads, directing visitors to ample carparking at the entrance to Ghost Mushroom Lane.

Visitors keen to explore the forest walking trails and view the mushrooms up close should wear warm clothes, sensible shoes and bring a torch. As Ghost Mushroom Lane is a temporary, seasonal installation located in a working pine plantation, the ground is irregular and uneven, with loose surfaces, so be careful!

Before visiting the site, you must obtain an access pass or guided tour ticket, which can be booked and paid for via the ForestrySA website.
